Intern/Practicum Student

Secure Base Counseling Center is hiring interns who are enrolled in a master’s degree in a field of psychology with a licensure track, are contracted with an accredited graduate school to conduct practicum/intern hours at Secure Base Counseling center and have experience with children and families. All of the student’s work will be supervised by the clinical supervisor, and regular reviews will be conducted. 


This position could be located in any of Secure Base Counseling Center's offices in Northfield, Lakeville or New Prague.


  • Learn clinical work by doing both skills work and therapy

  • Shadow skills workers and clinicians during the first few weeks of work

  • Learn about our philosophy of relational work with clients from an attachment perspective and learn the paperwork process by writing notes, treatment plans and Diagnostic Assessments (DAs) under supervision

  • Eventually, when deemed ready by the clinical supervisor, obtain an assigned client caseload to maintain

  • Schedule clients both in home and in office and write required DAs, treatment plans and case notes

  • Attend weekly mandatory educational and case consultation meetings

  • Be willing to work from an attachment perspective and with a team approach

  • Be enthusiastic about providing service and using their clinical skills

If pay is allowed by the terms of the student’s practicum, pay is $20–30 per clinical contact hour. Skills work and therapy work are both considered clinical contact. A therapy contact hour is between 53–60 minutes in duration, although circumstance will occasionally necessitate shorter sessions.

Secure Base Counseling Center pays employees every two weeks. Paychecks include a statement detailing the sessions being paid. Travel reimbursement, if applicable, is paid every two weeks, along with payroll, at 40 cents per minute. Reimbursement for approved expenses will also be paid every two weeks, along with payroll.

Freedom to Act

Employee is generally free to organize and prioritize own job duties, as well as assignments to other support staff, and knows where to refer people for assistance or guidance when necessary – or appropriately follows up to acquire a resolution. Employee works independently and with minimum supervision in carrying out necessary tasks. Employee is able to make decisions and answer questions using written resources such as the Employee Handbook, policy and other resources. In the rare event the Clinical Administrator is not available and the need is urgent, direct contact with the Clinical Director may be sought.
